BOEN floor repair: scratches, dents and other damage

Not every kind of floor damage calls for sanding the whole room or replacing a board. Small scratches, local wear marks and some other damage can be removed or made much less visible with the right BOEN products.

The repair method depends on the finish type, the decor and the depth of the damage. If in doubt, send us a photo and we will help you determine the most suitable repair method.

How to determine the repair method

What happenedPossible causeWhat to do
Small surface wear marksWear of the protective finish without damage to the woodThis is care, not repair: Oil Freshen Up for oiled surfaces, Polish for lacquered surfaces. See the guide for your finish
A scratch on Live Natural (oil)Damage to the oil layer, sometimes to the woodBOEN repair kit matched to your decor: local sanding plus colour-matched oil. Videos below
A scratch on Live PureDamage to the lacquer finishTouch-up lacquer bottle with a brush matched to your decor; for more serious damage — the Live Pure repair kit
A scratch on Live Matt and other lacquersDamage to the lacquer finishRepair kit for lacquered floors. Whether local repair is possible depends on the depth and area
A stain on an oiled floorSoiling or the effect of a liquidThe cleaning method depends on the origin of the stain; after intensive cleaning the oil protection may need restoring (Natural Oil)
A dent or a chipMechanical damage to the woodMinor damage can in some cases be removed or made less visible with a repair kit; deep damage needs a professional assessment — send a photo
A board deformed after water exposureA change in the moisture content of the woodA repair kit does not remove the cause of this deformation. First eliminate the source of moisture, then have the floor and subfloor assessed by a specialist
SqueakingPossible causes: the subfloor, the installation method, joints between elements or local movement of the flooringFurther assessment is needed — send us a video with sound

This is a general guide: it is not always possible to determine the cause precisely from a photo, especially with floor deformation, squeaking or subfloor problems.

BOEN repair products

Before buying, you need to know: the exact decor name, the finish type and the nature of the damage. The decor and finish names are in your floor documents. If the floor was bought from Openini, we can identify the right product from your order.

Live Natural floors with an oiled finish

Repair kit contents: instructions, P150 abrasive paper, P360 abrasive web, 0.125 l of colour-matched Live Natural oil, a brush and cloths.

Kits are made for specific decors: White, Pearl, Alamo/Antique, Coral/White Nights, Sand, Graphite, White Stone, Grey Pepper, Honey, Brown Jasper, Antique Brown, Authentic and others.

Bear in mind: natural wood changes shade over time, so even a correctly chosen product does not always give a completely invisible result.

Live Pure — touch-up lacquer or repair kit

A 28 ml bottle with a brush — for small local damage to the finish, for the decors Oak, Oak White, Ash, Warm Cotton, Horizon, Pale White, Warm Grey, India Grey, Elephant Grey, Brazilian Brown, Smoked Oak, Walnut and others.

For deeper damage — the Live Pure repair kit or professional repair.

Live Matt and other lacquer finishes

Whether local repair is possible depends on the depth of the scratch and the area of the damage. If the scratch has reached the wood or a large area is damaged, show the floor to a specialist first.

When it is better to call a professional

DIY local repair is not suitable for all damage. A professional assessment is recommended if:

  • boards have visibly deformed after water exposure;
  • a large area of the floor is damaged;
  • there are deep dents or chips in the wood;
  • an individual board needs replacing;
  • the cause of squeaking needs to be identified;
  • sanding and refinishing is being considered;
  • the cause of a change in the surface is unknown.

With water damage, first eliminate the source of moisture. Do not replace boards immediately after they get wet: the decision is made after assessing the nature and extent of the damage.

Openini sells BOEN flooring together with care and repair products. We do not carry out installation or repair work ourselves, but we will help identify the problem from a photo and choose the right product. If work is needed, contact a flooring specialist.

Can a single board be replaced?

In many cases, yes — but the method depends on the construction of the floor and how it was installed. Replacing a glued-down board is a different job from repairing a floating floor with a click joint.

Without experience, there is a high risk of damaging the neighbouring elements — this work is best left to a specialist.

Can a BOEN floor be sanded?

Whether sanding is possible depends on the construction of the specific floor, the thickness of the top layer, previous repairs and the condition of the floor. Before full sanding, check the specifications of the specific product.

Sanding irreversibly reduces the thickness of the top wood layer, so it should be done professionally.

Will the repaired spot be visible?

That depends on the depth of the damage, the wood species, the decor, the age of the floor, colour change in the wood over time, the finish type, how accurately the product was matched and the quality of the work.

A correctly done local repair makes the damage much less visible, but a completely identical shade of the old and restored surface cannot be guaranteed. The BOEN videos above show what result to expect.

Frequently asked questions

I don't know my decor name. What should I do?

If the floor was bought from Openini, the name is stated in your order documents. If you have no documents, send photos of the floor in good daylight — we will try to identify the collection and suggest a solution.

My floor is from another manufacturer. Will BOEN products work?

BOEN repair products are developed for BOEN finishes and decors. On another manufacturer's floor, compatibility of the finish and a matching shade cannot be guaranteed — send a photo and we will suggest a solution.

Can I remove a deep scratch myself?

It depends on the depth. If only the finish is damaged, local repair is possible. If the wood itself is damaged, the solution depends on the size and location of the defect. It is best to send a photo before starting.

What should I send for a damage assessment?

Two photos: a close-up of the damage and the whole floor area in daylight. Also state the decor and finish names if you know them. For squeaking, send a video with sound.

Need help with floor repair?

Send photos of the damage — we will help identify the problem, choose a product or tell you when it is better to call in a specialist.
