BOEN floor care: choose your finish

Choose your finish and find the right care guide.

The right way to care for a wood floor depends first of all on the type of surface finish. Identify your finish — and choose the right products for regular cleaning, periodic renewal and local repair.

How to identify your finish

The most reliable way is to check the finish name on your invoice or floor documents.

BOEN finishes include:

  • Live Natural — an oiled surface;
  • Live Matt — a matt lacquer;
  • Live Matt Plus — a reinforced matt lacquer finish;
  • Live Pure — an ultra-matt lacquer finish that preserves the most natural look of the wood.

We do not recommend identifying the finish by appearance alone: some modern lacquers look very similar to oiled wood.

If the floor was bought from Openini, the finish type is stated in your order documents.

Not sure? Send us the decor name or a photo of the floor taken in daylight — we will identify the finish and recommend the right products.

Choose your finish

Live Natural — oiled wood floor

For regular cleaning, use products made for oiled wood (Floor Soap). The oil layer is renewed periodically (Oil Freshen Up).

Live Matt — matt lacquer

For regular cleaning use BOEN Parquet Cleaner; for periodic renewal, BOEN Polish Matt.

Live Pure and Live Matt Plus

For regular cleaning use BOEN Parquet Cleaner. For renewal, use the dedicated product for Live Pure / Live Matt Plus finishes.

Scratches, dents and other damage

The repair method depends on the finish type, the decor and the depth of the damage. Minor local damage can in many cases be dealt with using BOEN repair products. BOEN video guides are on the repair page.

Basic rules for any wood floor

1. Protect the floor from sand and dirt

Sand and hard particles scratch the surface like sandpaper. Use a doormat at the entrance and remove dirt regularly with a vacuum cleaner or a dry mop.

2. Use protective pads under furniture

Fit clean felt pads to the legs of tables, chairs and other movable furniture, and replace them as they wear.

Use a protective mat suitable for wooden floors under chairs with castors.

3. Use as little water as possible

For damp cleaning, use a well-wrung mop. No puddles of water should remain on the surface.

Wipe up spills as quickly as possible.

What never to do

  • Do not use a steam cleaner. High temperature and moisture can damage the wood, the protective finish and the joints between boards.
  • Large amounts of water; a wet mop that leaves water on the surface.
  • Abrasive powders and hard scouring pads.
  • Aggressive all-purpose cleaners.
  • Products not intended for your finish type: oil and oiled-wood products are not for lacquered floors, and vice versa.
