Barlinek Herringbone and Chevron Wood Flooring

Barlinek is one of Europe's largest manufacturers of engineered wood flooring. The company grew out of the town of Barlinek in Poland, where the timber industry has operated since the 19th century. Local sawmills were merged into a single works in 1959, and Barlinek S.A. was formed after privatisation on 1 June 1999. Its plants now produce more than 12 million m² of flooring a year, sold in 75 countries.

How Barlinek boards are built

Every board is a six-layer engineered construction. The top layer is 2.5 mm of selected European hardwood — oak or ash. Beneath it, softwood layers are cross-bonded to limit the natural movement of the wood and keep the board stable. Total thickness is 14 mm.

The surface is protected by up to seven UV-cured lacquer layers or by natural oil. Most décors are brushed with a four-sided micro-bevel, which brings out the grain and defines each block. The 2.5 mm wear layer means the floor can be sanded and refinished several times, so its service life is measured in decades.

Herringbone and chevron

• Classic herringbone — blocks 110 mm and 130 mm wide, 660 or 725 mm long, with the OptiLock joint on both sides. Left and right blocks are identical, so there is no sorting on site.
• Chevron (French herringbone) — 130 mm wide, 725 mm long, tongue-and-groove joint, ends cut at 45°.

We recommend glue-down installation for both patterns. A bonded floor moves less, sounds quieter underfoot and transfers heat more evenly over underfloor heating — and in a herringbone pattern, where there are several times more joints per square metre than in long planks, the difference is most noticeable.

Underfloor heating

The layered construction conducts heat well and is approved for water and electric underfloor heating, with a thermal resistance of about 0.1 m²K/W.

Environment and certificates

Barlinek runs a "1 for 1" scheme — one tree planted for every pack of flooring sold, 18 million trees to date. The floors carry the Indoor Air Comfort certificate for indoor air quality and CE conformity documentation.
