How to lacquer parquet: 5 steps
The keys to lacquering parquet are a prepared surface, a primer and two coats of lacquer with a pause between them. LOBA water-based lacquers are applied with a roller at 100–120 g/m² per coat, and the floor takes light foot traffic after 24 hours.
1. Sand the surface
Sand in several passes from coarse to fine abrasive until the wood is clean and even. Vacuum thoroughly and keep the finest dust for filling.
2. Fill the joints
LOBA EasyFill mixed with the finest sanding dust (1:10 by weight) closes joints in one pass. Coverage is about 100 ml/m². Sand fine joints after 15 min and wide ones after a night.
3. Prime
A primer reduces the risk of side-bonding between boards and evens out the colour.
- LOBA EasyPrime – water-based primer under 2K Duo, 2K Supra A.T. and EasyFinish; 8–10 m²/L, lacquer after ~60 min.
- LOBA PrimaSeal Plus – alcohol-based primer, also for exotic woods; lacquer after at least 60 min.
- LOBA 2K InvisibleProtect needs no primer.
4. Apply two coats
Apply with a roller (LOBA Universal 100, Deluxe or Micro 120) at 100–120 g/m² per coat. After 4 hours lightly sand and apply the next coat. For very heavy traffic (shops, restaurants) LOBA 2K Supra A.T. takes 2–3 coats.
5. Let it cure
Light foot traffic after 24 h, full load after 5 days. Put down rugs and heavy furniture no earlier than 5 days.
