Caring for BOEN floors with Live Natural oil

A care guide prepared by Openini, the official BOEN representative in Vilnius. Which products to use for regular cleaning, how to renew the finish, and what to avoid at all costs.

Check your finish type

A floor with the Live Natural finish has a silky matt surface with no glossy lacquer film. You can feel the natural wood texture when you touch it.

Your decor name and finish type are stated on your Openini invoice — look for the words Live Natural.

Daily or as neededVacuum with a parquet nozzle or use a dry mop.

1–2 times a year in bedrooms and living rooms. In hallways and other high-traffic areas — noticeably more often, up to once a monthApply undiluted to a clean, dry floor with a lint-free cloth. One cap covers around 4 m². Let it dry, then polish.BOEN Oil Freshen Up
Every few years, or when the surface looks dry and visibly wornRenew the oil layer. Small areas can be treated yourself following the BOEN instructions. For larger areas we recommend calling in a specialist.BOEN Natural Oil

The manufacturer recommends an initial treatment with Oil Freshen Up after installation, before the floor is taken into use. If you bought your floor from Openini, we can recommend the right initial care products based on your order.

A sign that it is time for Oil Freshen Up: the floor becomes harder to clean and looks dull in the most-used areas.

Products for your floor

Ready-made kit

BOEN care kit for oiled floors (a version for white floors is also available).

The kit contains: BOEN Floor Soap, 1 l — for regular washing; BOEN Oil Freshen Up, 1 l — for care 1–2 times a year.

If you would rather not study individual products, take the kit: it covers everything a regularly maintained oiled floor needs.

Or individually

BOEN Floor Soap, 1 l
Cleaner for regular washing of oiled wood floors. Dosage: 3 caps per 5 litres of water; for heavier soiling, 2 caps per 1 litre.

BOEN Oil Freshen Up
Care product used 1–2 times a year. Refreshes the matt sheen and reduces the visibility of light wear marks. Three versions: clear for standard shades, White for white and light floors, Dark for dark floors. Choose the version that matches the colour of your floor.

BOEN Natural Oil, 0.75 l / 2.5 l (White version available)
Oil for a deeper renewal of the surface when Oil Freshen Up is no longer enough. 0.75 l covers a room, 2.5 l covers a flat.

Osmo roller 250 mm / Osmo brush 220 mm
Tools for applying the oil. You only need these if you renew the finish yourself.

Caring for an oiled floor — what to do and in what order

How to apply oil when renewing the finish

The sequence of steps matches the table above.

What never to do

Steam cleaner. Do not use a steam cleaner. High temperature and moisture can damage the wood, the finish and the joints between boards.

Excess water. The mop must be well wrung out: if the floor takes longer than 2–3 minutes to dry, there is too much water. Wipe up spills immediately.

Unsuitable household chemicals. Aggressive all-purpose cleaners and products containing ammonia, alcohol or abrasives destroy the oil layer. Use only products made for oiled wood floors.

Products for lacquered floors. Products for lacquered floors are not intended for an oiled finish and may leave marks or change the appearance of the surface. Check what a product is intended for before buying.

Furniture without protective pads. Chair and table legs are the most common cause of scratches. Use felt pads and replace them as they wear. Use a protective mat under chairs with castors.

A scratch or a stain has appeared?

One of the advantages of an oiled floor is local repair. Light scratches and wear marks can often be removed spot by spot, without sanding the whole room.

For most BOEN decors there is a repair kit with oil matched to the colour of your floor.

Floor repair and repair kits

If the surface has simply gone dull and become harder to clean, that is not damage — it is a sign that it is time for Oil Freshen Up (see the calendar above).

Deep scratches, stains of unclear origin or swollen boards — send us a photo first. We will tell you whether a repair kit will solve it or whether you need a professional.

Questions and answers

Can I use a robot vacuum?

For dry cleaning — yes. If you use the wet-mopping function, it is important that the robot uses a minimal amount of water and does not leave the floor wet. If the manufacturer does not provide a mode suitable for wooden floors, it is better not to use the wet function.

The floor is in the kitchen. Do the care rules change?

The basic rules stay the same. Wipe up water, grease and other spills straight away. In the kitchen work zone the finish wears faster — you will need Oil Freshen Up there more often than in a bedroom or living room.

I have a dog. Is an oiled floor suitable?

Yes, but claws can leave scratches. Trim the claws regularly and put a mat under the water bowl. Claw scratches on an oiled finish can be removed with a repair kit — this is where oil beats lacquer.

How does caring for an oiled floor differ from a lacquered one?

An oiled finish needs regular care, but individual areas can be restored locally. Lacquered floors are cleaned with a different product (BOEN Parquet Cleaner) and renewed less often, but spot repair is more difficult. You will find the guide for lacquered floors here.
