Live Matt is a matt BOEN lacquer finish that preserves the natural look of the wood. To care for this floor properly, it is important to use products made specifically for lacquered wooden floors.
Make sure your finish is Live Matt
The most reliable way is to check the finish name on your invoice or floor documents. Look for Live Matt.
Do not identify the finish by appearance alone: a modern matt lacquer can look very similar to oiled wood.
Not sure? Send us the decor name or a photo of the floor.
Care calendar
There is no universal schedule that suits every home — go primarily by how the floor looks. The intervals in the table are a guide for a typical flat.
| How often | What to do | Product |
|---|---|---|
| Daily or as needed | Vacuum with a suitable nozzle or use a dry mop | — |
| Damp cleaning — as needed, usually 1–2 times a week | A well-wrung mop: no water should remain on the surface after cleaning. Dilute the product following the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging | BOEN Parquet Cleaner |
| When high-traffic areas start to look different from the rest of the surface; as a guide — 1–2 times a year | Apply to a pre-cleaned floor following the manufacturer's instructions. Restores an even matt appearance | BOEN Polish Matt |
If anything is spilled on the floor, wipe it up as quickly as possible.
Unlike an oiled floor, Live Matt needs no initial treatment after installation — the finish is fully factory-finished.

BOEN video: repairing a lacquered floor
The regular cleaning routine for a lacquered floor matches the table above; the video shows how local damage is repaired.
What to avoid
Steam cleaner. Do not use a steam cleaner. High temperature and moisture can damage the wood, the protective finish and the joints between boards.
Excess water. Never flood the floor with water. For damp cleaning, use a well-wrung mop. Wipe up spilled water and other liquids as quickly as possible.
Products for oiled floors. Do not use Floor Soap, oils or other oiled-wood products on a lacquered floor. They are not intended for this finish type and may change the appearance of the surface or leave marks.
Abrasives. Scouring powders, metal and hard scouring pads can leave micro-scratches and dull patches on the lacquer. Also avoid aggressive household chemicals not intended for lacquered wooden floors.
Furniture without protective pads. Fit clean felt pads under furniture legs; use a protective mat suitable for wooden floors under chairs with castors.
What to do if a scratch appears
First assess the depth of the damage: a light surface mark and a deep scratch into the wood need different solutions.
For local repair of lacquered BOEN floors there is a BOEN repair kit for lacquered floors. The result depends on the depth of the damage, the decor, the age of the floor and the condition of the finish.
If the damage is deep, there is a chip in the wood, a deformed board or signs of water damage — send us a photo. We will help determine whether local repair is possible or a professional is needed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a robot vacuum?
Yes, for dry cleaning. If the robot has a wet-mopping function, it must not leave a noticeable amount of water on the floor. Also follow the device manufacturer's recommendations.
If the lacquer is scratched, does the whole floor need sanding?
Not necessarily. Minor local damage can in many cases be repaired without full sanding. For deep or extensive damage, the decision is made after assessing the condition of the floor.
What is the difference between Live Matt and Live Matt Plus?
They are different factory finishes from BOEN, and they use different renewal products. If your documents say Live Matt Plus, use the Live Pure / Live Matt Plus guide.
What if my finish is Live Natural?
Live Natural is an oiled surface and uses different products. The guide is here.
