BOEN Chalet — hand-finished oversized planks

Chalet is BOEN's largest and thickest format: 20 mm thick, up to 395 mm wide and up to 4000 mm long. A four-metre board spans an entire room without a single cross joint.

Chalet boards are not of uniform width: each is cut to follow the shape of the log, with edges left irregular. Once laid, the floor has a naturally uneven line between boards — which is precisely what separates Chalet from industrial parquet.

Finishing is done by hand: brushing, edge easing, ageing, oiling. Each board is treated individually, so no two are alike.

At 20 mm it carries the thickest wear layer in the BOEN range — a floor that can be sanded several times and will realistically outlast the interior around it.

Construction and dimensions

Chalet boards are 20 mm thick, up to 395 mm wide and up to 4000 mm long. Three-layer build of 20 / 10,5 / 5 mm with an oak wear layer of roughly 4,5 mm — the thickest in the BOEN range.

A four-metre board spans an entire room without a single cross joint. It shows immediately: the floor has none of the repeating rhythm that standard 2200 mm boards create.

A 4,5 mm wear layer allows several sandings — a floor like this realistically outlasts the interior around it.

Chalet boards are not of uniform width. Each is cut to follow the shape of the log, with the edges left natural. Once laid, the line between boards is alive and slightly uneven.

That is exactly what separates Chalet from industrial parquet — and exactly why the format is wrong for a project that needs geometric regularity.

Hand finishing

Every board is treated individually: brushing, edge easing, ageing, oiling. No two boards are alike.

The finish is Live Natural oil. It can be refreshed in place, which matters for a floor of this format: sanding the whole area would be expensive and difficult.

Installation and ordering

Installation is glue-down only, on a level and dry subfloor. Dimensions are matched to the project: because the boards vary in width, quantities are calculated by area rather than by pack count.

Suitable for underfloor heating, though at 20 mm heat transfer is slower than with thinner formats — the system has to be designed with that in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Is Chalet a solid wood board?

No. It is a three-layer construction with a 4,5 mm oak top. It is more stable than solid timber and, unlike solid, it is suitable for underfloor heating.

How do I calculate quantities when boards vary in width?

By area in square metres, with a 10 % allowance. Board widths within a pack are given as a range, so the exact number of boards is not known in advance.

Can Chalet be combined with narrower formats in the same house?

Yes, but transitions between rooms need a threshold or an expansion joint — the difference is not only width but thickness (20 mm against 14 mm), so floor levels will not align without preparation.

What are the lead times?

Usually 6–10 weeks, as most decors are made to order. Items held in stock are marked in the catalogue.

What is thinner but still wide?

Chaletino — 300 mm wide, 15 mm thick, with regular edges and a lower price.
