Caring for parquet and engineered wood floors

The finish on a wood floor, whether lacquer or oil, protects it from damage. For parquet to serve for decades and keep its good looks, it needs regular care.

Engineered wood flooring, or a solid wood board, is a natural material — a piece of nature that brings warmth, comfort and good energy into your home. To preserve the beauty of a wood floor for a long time, remember and follow a few simple rules.

Try to maintain a stable indoor climate. The ideal conditions for parquet are a temperature of +18 °C to +24 °C and relative humidity of 40–60%. These conditions suit people very well too. Use humidifiers in the dry season and heat the room in periods of high humidity.
With underfloor heating, make surethat the floor surface temperature does not rise above +27 °C and that temperature swings do not exceed 5 °C per day.
Keep dirt and sand away from your parquet floor — they should not get past the entrance door. Use suitable door matsthat hold back moisture and dirt on both sides of the entrance door.
Fit felt pads to the feet of your furniture — this protects the floor from scratches.
Try not to walk on parquet in high-heeled shoes.
When cleaning, do not use a lot of water and make sure the mop is well wrung out.
If you spill water or another liquid on the floor, wipe it up at once, because moisture is destructive to wood floors and can deform the boards.
Never use hard or abrasive tools to clean the floor or remove stains.
For everyday cleaning it is enough to vacuum the floor or wipe it with a barely damp cloth, so the floor dries immediately and no water marks are left.
If the floor is very dirty , use special cleaning products and remember to dry the floor afterwards.
Use cleaning products suited to your floor's finish (lacquer or oil).

The floor surface then becomes more resistant to dirt and wear. For cleaning parquet floors we recommend products from the German company Loba LobaCare.

For everyday damp cleaning of parquet floors, these products are suitable:

Cleaner — a concentrate for floors finished with either lacquer or oil;
CareCleaner — for lacquered parquet;
ParkettSoap — for oiled and waxed parquet;
BodenReiniger+ — a universal professional cleaner for parquet and all non-absorbent surfaces (laminate, vinyl, cork, linoleum, tiles).

If you want your parquet to look like new as the years pass, do not forget to refresh it regularly. How often depends on how the floor is treated and the loads it has to bear in use.

Where floor loads are light — in bedrooms and living rooms that are used little and carefully — a hardwood floor needs no special care. Regular cleaning is enough, plus treatment with a special product once or twice a year:

FloorCare Gloss and FloorCare Matt — recommended for parquet finished with lacquer or matt lacquer. They clean the floor, protect it from dirt and give it an excellent appearance.
ParkettOil — a product for oiled parquet. It removes stubborn dirt and damage in the base oil layer, gives the surface a matt look and requires no polishing.
ParkettWax — a product for parquet finished with wax or oil. It closes open pores and protects the finish from dirt. It gives the surface a sheen and protects against moisture penetration.

Parquet in intensive use — in a kitchen, hallway or stairwell, where it is exposed to dust and sand — will need more intensive care. Alongside regular cleaning, it should be treated with special products (FloorCare Gloss or FloorCare Matt, ParkettOil, ParkettWax) once every month or two.

If you need to remove stubborn dirt, use products intended for intensive cleaning:

CareRemover is recommended for lacquered floors. It removes stubborn dirt and old layers of floor cleaner, is pH neutral and suitable for sensitive surfaces too.
WaxRemover is suitable for floors finished with oil or wax. It removes stubborn dirt and old wax layers. It contains solvents, so it is recommended for solvent-resistant parquet.
