BOEN Plank Castle — wide oak flooring, 209 mm

Plank Castle is a 209 mm wide oak board, 14 mm thick and 2200 mm long. This is the width at which a floor stops being background and becomes part of the interior in its own right: you see the whole grain pattern rather than a fragment of it.

The wear layer is 3,5 mm of oak, the same as in the narrower formats, so the extra width costs nothing in terms of renewal — the floor can be sanded at least twice.

Some Castle decors are finished by hand: edges are lightly eased and the surface is brushed to expose the natural structure of the wood. No two boards repeat, and it shows once the full area is laid.

5G Click locking, floating or glue-down installation, compatible with underfloor heating. For wide formats we recommend glue-down — it makes the floor noticeably quieter underfoot.

Construction and technical data

Format 14 × 209 × 2200 mm. Three-layer build with a 3,5 mm oak wear layer, a cross-bonded core and a stabilising backing. The wear layer matches the narrower formats — the extra width costs nothing in renewal potential, and the floor can be sanded at least twice.

209 mm is the width at which you see the whole grain pattern rather than a fragment of it. At 138 mm the eye reads a row of boards; at 209 mm it reads the timber itself.

Bevel is 2V or 4V depending on the decor. 4V defines each board on all sides and suits the more rustic gradings; 2V gives a calmer, more continuous plane.

A distinct group is the decors previously sold under the Stonewashed name: Alamo, Pearl, Honey, Graphite, Sand, Coral, Brown Jasper, Grey Pepper. That was never a separate collection but a colour range within Castle and Plank 138, which is why they are listed here.

Installation

5G Click locking allows both floating and glue-down installation. For wide boards we recommend glueing: adhesive restrains movement as humidity changes, and the floor becomes noticeably quieter underfoot.

Suitable for underfloor heating. Conditions: subfloor up to 29 °C, room 18–21 °C, relative humidity 30–65 %.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 209 mm board suit a small room?

Below roughly 20 m² a wide board can read as oversized and visually narrow the space. For smaller rooms Plank 138 or Plank 181 is the more rational choice.

Why are wide boards recommended for glue-down installation?

The wider the board, the greater its absolute dimensional change with humidity. Adhesive restrains that movement — no gaps open between boards during the heating season, and none of the hollow sound typical of floating floors.

Are the Stonewashed decors still produced?

Yes. Stonewashed was never a separate collection but a colour group within the 138 and 209 mm formats. Every item remains in the range, now sorted under its actual format.

How many times can a Castle floor be sanded?

At least twice — the oak wear layer is 3,5 mm, as in all the main BOEN formats.

What is wider in the BOEN range?

Chaletino at 300 mm wide, 2750 mm long, 15 mm thick. Chalet up to 395 mm wide and 4000 mm long, 20 mm thick, with irregular edges.
