BOEN Chaletino — extra-wide planks, 300 mm

Chaletino is a 300 mm wide, 2750 mm long oak plank, 15 mm thick. A single board carries almost the full cross-section pattern of the tree, so the floor reads as a continuous plane of timber rather than an assembly of strips.

Boards this wide can only be cut from mature oak, which is why the Chaletino range leans towards lively gradings: knots, heartwood, colour variation. That is the point of the format, not a flaw in it.

Several surfaces are finished by hand — brushed, with eased edges, and some decors deliberately aged. The result comes close to the floor of an old house, with modern performance behind it.

Installation is glue-down. For boards this wide it is the only correct method: adhesive restrains movement as humidity changes and keeps the floor stable.

Construction and technical data

Format 15 × 300 × 2750 mm. Three-layer build of 3,5 / 8 / 3,5 mm — the backing is thicker than in the standard formats, because a board this wide needs a stronger counterbalance against humidity movement.

The oak wear layer is 3,5 mm; the floor can be sanded at least twice.

Grading: why there is so much character here

Boards this wide can only be cut from mature, large-diameter oak. Timber like that inevitably contains knots, heartwood and colour variation — which is why the Chaletino range leans towards the livelier gradings.

That is the point of the format, not a defect in it. Anyone after a completely even colour is better served by a narrower Castle in a calm grading.

Hand finishing

Several surfaces are worked by hand: brushed, with eased edges, and some decors deliberately aged. The result comes close to the floor of an old house, with modern performance behind it.

Installation

Installation is glue-down only. Floating does not apply to a board this wide: left unrestrained, a 300 mm board moves too much with humidity, opening gaps and creating noise.

Subfloor requirements are strict: level, dry, free of cracks, with moisture content within the adhesive manufacturer’s limits. Suitable for underfloor heating — subfloor up to 29 °C, room 18–21 °C, relative humidity 30–65 %.

Frequently asked questions

What room size suits a 300 mm board?

From roughly 30 m² upwards. In a smaller room a board this wide reads as disproportionately large, and the perimeter requires ripping boards lengthways — which makes it obvious the format is too big for the space.

Why can it not be installed floating?

A board’s dimensional change with humidity is proportional to its width. For a 300 mm board that movement is large enough that, without adhesive, gaps open between boards and the floor begins to creak.

Are knots and colour variation a sign of a defect?

No. They are the result of the grading, meaning how the timber is selected. BOEN gradings define how much character is permitted in each item; all of them meet the same quality requirements.

What are the lead times?
