BOEN Herringbone Click — click-together herringbone

Herringbone Click is a classic herringbone that installs without adhesive. Format 14 × 138 × 690 mm, three-layer construction: 3,5 mm oak wear layer, 8,8 mm core and 1,7 mm backing.

The key difference from traditional herringbone is the 5G Click locking system. Traditional herringbone is glued to the subfloor, which demands a perfectly level surface, an experienced installer and several days of curing. Click herringbone floats: faster, cheaper to install, and removable if needed.

All boards have 4V bevels — each element is defined on all four sides, so the herringbone pattern stays legible instead of merging into a flat plane.

Finishes are Live Natural oil and Live Pure lacquer. Suitable for underfloor heating.

How click herringbone differs from glue-down

Traditional herringbone is glued to the subfloor. That demands a perfectly level surface, an experienced fitter and several days of curing — and the largest cost is often the labour rather than the flooring.

5G Click herringbone floats over an underlay. Installation is faster and cheaper, subfloor tolerances are more forgiving, and the floor can be lifted again without damaging the boards.

The price of that convenience is a floor slightly louder underfoot than a glued one. Over larger areas the difference is more noticeable.

Finishes

Live Natural oil brings out the grain and can be refreshed in place. Live Pure lacquer leaves the natural tone of the oak unchanged, resists wear better and needs no periodic oiling.

Gradings run from the calm Adagio and Andante to the livelier Animoso, plus white versions.

Installation and underfloor heating

Herringbone elements are laid in pairs at 90°. Before starting, the axis of the pattern has to be set relative to the room — that is what decides whether the pattern looks symmetrical at doors and windows.

Suitable for underfloor heating: subfloor up to 29 °C, room 18–21 °C, relative humidity 30–65 %.

Frequently asked questions

Can click herringbone be installed DIY?

The locking system does not prevent it, but herringbone is unforgiving: an error in the pattern axis accumulates across the area and shows as a visible drift at the far wall. For a first installation it is worth having the setting-out done by a fitter.

How much waste allowance should I order?

More than for straight boards — 10–12 % rather than the usual 5–7 %, because the perimeter requires more cuts and offcuts.

Is an underlay required?

For floating installation, yes. The underlay evens out minor subfloor irregularities and dampens sound. It is not used in a glue-down installation.

How does it differ from Chevron?

Chevron is French herringbone: the board ends are cut at 60° and meet in a continuous point. Herringbone Click is the classic 90° pattern with rectangular boards.

Are the same decors available as straight boards?
