BOEN Herringbone T/G — glue-down herringbone

Herringbone T/G is traditional tongue-and-groove herringbone, glued to the subfloor. Format 10,5 × 137 × 790 mm.

Its main advantage is the slim profile. At 10,5 mm it barely raises the floor level, which makes it the format for renovations where doors and frames are already fitted and there is no height to give away. The thin section also conducts heat most efficiently — this is the best BOEN herringbone for underfloor heating.

A glued floor is the quietest underfoot: there is no air gap between board and subfloor, and none of the hollow sound typical of floating installations.

Finishes are Live Matt, Live Natural and Live Matt Plus. Installation requires a level, dry subfloor and an experienced fitter; we select adhesive and primer to match the substrate.

Construction and technical data

The main format is 10,5 × 137 × 790 mm with tongue and groove. The collection also includes a narrower 105 mm version for mosaic patterns.

Two-layer construction with a 3,5 mm oak wear layer — the same as in the thicker BOEN formats, so refinishing potential is unchanged.

Why a slim profile is an advantage

Renovation. At 10,5 mm it barely raises the floor level. Where doors and frames are already fitted and lifting the old covering leaves little headroom, this is often the only format that fits.

Underfloor heating. A thin section conducts heat most efficiently — this is the best BOEN herringbone for a heated floor.

Quiet. A glued floor is the quietest underfoot: there is no air gap between board and subfloor, and none of the hollow sound typical of floating installations.

Finishes

Live Matt and Live Matt Plus are matt lacquers: wear-resistant and maintenance-free. Live Natural oil brings out the grain and can be refreshed in place.

Gradings run from the calm Adagio to the livelier Animoso, plus Mix for mosaic layouts.

Installation

Installation is glue-down only. It requires a level, dry subfloor and an experienced fitter: angular error in a herringbone accumulates across the whole area. We select adhesive and primer to match the substrate.

Conditions over underfloor heating: subfloor up to 29 °C, room 18–21 °C, relative humidity 30–65 %.

Frequently asked questions

When to choose T/G over click herringbone?

T/G when the subfloor is level, floor height or quiet matters, and an experienced fitter is available. Click when the subfloor is uneven, the installation budget is limited, or the floor has to go down quickly.

Is 10,5 mm enough for a long service life?

Yes. Service life is set by the wear layer, not the overall thickness, and that is 3,5 mm — at least two sandings.

How much waste allowance is needed?

10–12 %. A herringbone requires more cuts around the perimeter than straight boards, so more offcuts are produced.

Can it be laid over an old timber floor?

Yes, provided it is sound, does not move and has been levelled. A weak substrate must be reinforced or overlaid with plywood — otherwise the glued floor will follow the movement beneath it.

What is the difference between the 137 mm and 105 mm versions?

The 105 mm element is intended for finer layouts — mosaic and double herringbone. 137 mm is the standard proportion for a classic herringbone.
