Flexible LVT vinyl — glue-down and click

Flexible vinyl, or LVT, has no mineral core. It is a thin multi-layer floor that bends and does not hold its own shape — which is why it is glued to the subfloor, or laid with a click joint depending on the range.

Three things flexible vinyl does better

It barely raises the floor. 2–2,5 mm against 4–6 mm for SPC. In a renovation with doors and frames already fitted, often only this thickness fits.

Quietest underfoot. A glued floor leaves no air gap between plank and subfloor, so there is none of the hollow sound typical of floating floors. In offices and hotels this is frequently the deciding argument.

Best heat transfer. A thin section restricts heat least, so an underfloor heating system runs at a lower flow temperature.

What glue-down installation demands

The subfloor must be level, dry and sound. Flexible flooring follows every irregularity beneath it and shows it on the surface — levelling here is a condition, not a recommendation. Subfloor moisture is measured before installation and the adhesive is matched to the substrate.

If the subfloor is uneven or you are installing yourself, SPC with a click joint is the more rational choice — it is more forgiving.

Frequently asked questions

What does installation cost?

Glue-down costs more than click, because the subfloor has to be prepared and the adhesive has to cure. The exact figure depends on the state of the subfloor — we assess it on site.

Can it be laid over old tiles?

Yes, provided the tiles are firmly bonded and the joints are filled. Unfilled joints will telegraph through the surface within a few months.

Is flexible vinyl suitable for a bathroom?

Yes, and better than click: a glued floor has no joints for water to get under. This is one of the few cases where the glue-down version is the only correct answer.

Can a single damaged plank be replaced?

Yes, but it is a job for a fitter: the plank is cut out, old adhesive is removed and a new one is bonded. Worth keeping 2–3 % in reserve.

How does it differ from SPC?

SPC has a mineral core: thicker, more rigid, laid with a click joint and more tolerant of an uneven subfloor. Flexible vinyl is thinner, quieter and conducts heat better, but demands a perfect subfloor. Compare at SPC vinyl flooring.
